Health Canada’s Hazardcheck Event Fall 2011
Program Representative – Contract Part-Time
Locations: Home Depot locations across Canada

Summerhill is dedicated to developing, implementing and managing public engagement and market transformation programs that lead to measurable improvements in energy savings.

Currently, we are seeking outgoing, energetic and dynamic individuals to join our team as a program representative to promote our Health Canada’s Hazardcheck Event. This is a national public engagement campaign to raise awareness among Canadian homeowners of the health risks that exist in their everyday lives and the simple actions they can take to reduce them. The focus for 2011 is carbon monoxide and radon. During this event, representatives will engage customers in discussion regarding household hazards, survey participants and distribute Hazardcheck educational materials. Customers will also be provided with discounts on indoor air quality testing devices and air ventilation products. Representatives will also make a short presentation in DIY workshops at select Home Depot locations.

One representative is required at each location. All representatives will receive paid online training, be required to complete a store visit prior to the events, set up the event at their assigned location and be committed to facilitate the event for two weekends.
Event Schedule

Training:
Conference call, quiz and store visit to take place between October 17 – 21, 2011.

-30 min Conference call & Webinar
-2.5 hours online training, self-study and online quiz
-1.5 hours store visit

Event dates & Shift times:

Sat Oct 29: 9:30am-3:00pm
Sun Oct 30: 10:00am-3:00pm

Sat Nov 5: 10:00am-3:00pm
Sun Nov 6: 10:00am-3:30pm

*An additional 30 minutes will be allocated each weekend for reporting.

Responsibilities:
•Actively engage and educate customers on indoor air quality and potential environmental household hazards – specifically, carbon monoxide and radon
•Inform customers of the tools available to monitor levels of toxins in their home and direct them to related products featured in store
•Facilitate giveaway of Hazardcheck educational materials and have customers fill out a feedback card to enter prize draw
•Encourage customers to visit the Health Canada Hazardcheck website and YouTube videos
•Demonstrate or explain to customers how to use Quick Response coupons (QR codes) using smartphone applications.
•Communicate effectively with Home Depot store management and staff prior to and during event weeks to ensure all materials have been received and are properly stored
•Set-up and take down of event display
•Track participation and complete daily reports as required
•Make a short (2-3 minute) presentation during Saturday DIY workshops at select Home Depot locations

Qualifications/Job Requirements:
•Possess a background in Environment, Science and/or have a strong interest in environmental public health concerns
•Currently enrolled in, or completed post-secondary education
•Outgoing personality – must be able to proactively approach consumers and engage them in discussion on household hazards and environmental issues
•Positive personality – must leave the public with a clear directive on how they can make positive change
•Detail-oriented, punctual, conscientious, reliable and able to work independently
•Have a friendly and professional manner and appearance
•Have high-speed internet access (high-speed users will have easier access to online training)
•Be able to complete staffing and event documents using Word and Excel
•Submit a photo of yourself at your event area with your timesheet after the event


Type of Employment: Part-time, Contract
Salary Range: $15/hour
