The Organization:
With the goal to foster a strong, competitive economic environment that benefits Aboriginal businesses of all sizes and sectors in Manitoba, the ACC engages the Government and community directly on issues that are critical to the Aboriginal economy. Established in 2004, the ACC represents Aboriginal business on issues that are important to the success of our membership, including a number of areas of policy on areas such as agriculture, economic development & small business, environment, fiscal responsibility, health, labour & manpower, natural resources, tourism, and social services.

The Opportunity:
The President of the Aboriginal Chamber of Commerce is responsible for the leadership of the Chamber as well as ensuring the ACC’s position as the leading advocate for Aboriginal business in Manitoba. The ACC is seeking a highly motivated and strategic individual to provide management services as the President. The ideal candidate will have experience with not-for-profit boards, Aboriginal organizations/businesses, a well developed business network and the ability to communicate articulately. The Board of Directors is also willing to consider recent Aboriginal graduates with outstanding interpersonal skills, a related graduate degree and a strong awareness of political and Aboriginal issues. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the President is responsible for the successful leadership and management of the organization in accordance with strategic direction from the Board.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities include:
•Participate with the Board of Directors to develop the ACC vision and strategic plan
•Identify, assess, and inform the Board of internal and external issues
•Foster effective team work between the Board and the President and between the President and staff
•Act as a spokesperson for the Aboriginal Chamber of Commerce
•Develop an operational plan which incorporates the Board’s strategic goals and objectives
•Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the Aboriginal Chamber of Commerce ensuring that expectations of the board and members are met
•Implement, review and make Policy recommendations to the Board
•Provide support to the Board of Directors by preparing meeting agenda and supporting materials
•Oversee the planning, implementation, execution and evaluation of special projects
•Oversee the implementation of the human resource policies, procedures and practices
•Establish a positive, healthy and safe work environment
•Work with staff and the Board of Directors (Finance Committee) to prepare a comprehensive budget
•Participate in membership drives and fundraising activities
•Be accountable for finances and financial reporting
•Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, members, politicians, funders and other organizations to help achieve the goals of the Aboriginal Chamber of Commerce

Desired Selection Criteria include:
•Degree in Business Administration, Political Science, Commerce, or equivalent education and experience,
•Demonstrated budget management and Accounting skills/knowledge,
•Management experience in a Not-for-Profit environment,
•Experience and/or a strong appreciation of business management and entrepreneurship,
•Demonstrated advocacy, lobbying and networking skills an asset, and
•A true and comprehensive understanding of the mission and mandate of the ACC is important.
•Preference will be given to Aboriginal applicants.
