Description:

Reporting to and in collaboration with the Senior Mining Engineer, the Mine Planner, Engineer is responsible for various activities related to mine design, development of plans and schedules, optimization exercises and analysis. This work will contribute to conceptual mining and to exploration projects as well as to studies to support prefeasibility and feasibility studies as assigned. The position must ensure that procedures and processes are completed to relevant industry standards and works with different groups, including Vale Inco personnel and external Engineering firms.
Position Requirements:

Mine simulation software packages form an integral part of all mining operations. It is therefore important that the incumbent be familiar with and remains up-to-date on applications of software packages such as various modules in Datamine, Mine 2-4D for mine planning and NPV Scheduler / Whittle for open pit optimization.

• Proven organizational skills with the ability to manage a variety of issues simultaneously within tight timeframes.

• Self motivated and a high level of energy to be successful in a dynamic project environment

• Strong team player, facilitative and investigative skills

• General understanding of geological models, block models and geostatistics applied to resource estimation

• General understanding of rock mechanics and numerical models and their application to mine planning

• An aptitude for mathematics and science (especially chemistry and physics)

• Ability to visualize three-dimensional objects from two-dimensional drawings

• Ability to be decisive

• Ability to make judgments and resolve issues

• Adaptability required applying themselves to a variety of work situations.

• Strong computer skills, specifically in mine planning software

• They should enjoy being innovative, doing work that requires precision, making decisions and supervising others

• 3-5 years of work experience in Mining Engineering

Education Requirements:

• A bachelor's degree in mining engineering or in a related engineering discipline. Masters degree preferred.
License Requirements:

• Licensed by a provincial association of professional engineers
